On 24 June 2026 North western and central Venezuela got hit by double earthquake of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 within 39seconds at 18:04 h local time.
This double earthquakes caused widespread damage and destruction of properties and extensive loss of life n injuries across the country, particularly in La Guaira and Caracas in which over 1700 people were killed, over 5000 were injured and over 50000 still missing.
Being 14500 km away from New Delhi, India reached Caracass with 3 days with urgent assistance to support Venezuela post earthquake relief efforts under Operation Amistad.
Operation Amistad:-
As part of operation Amistad, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft reached caracass with 36 tons of humanitarian relief supplies and a 41 member of rescue and medical team to assist ongoing relief and rescue efforts.
The relief consignment comprises 30 tons of relief supplies, 6 tons of medicines and medical equipment and 2 BHISHM cube portable hospitals.
The 41 member team comprises experienced rescue personnel and medical professionals, who is working closely with Venezuelan authorities in search and rescue operations, emergency medical care and humanitarian relief efforts in the affected areas.
Amistad is a Spanish word which means Friendship, a close bond of affection n trust between people . Distance is not a barrier for friendship, that is what India is proving and friend in need is friend indeed.
India stands shoulder to shoulder with the government and the people of Venezuela during this difficult time and stands ready to provide further assistance as may be required.
